A Disc of Steel

This is a small project which has been in the pipeline for a while, and which I finally got my hands on and pushed through.

The idea was to create a 'metal' disc to be used for my miniatures, based on a piece of plastic which normally serves as a partition for food inside a disposable steamer. The disc is about 16 cm or 6,5 inches in diameter, and is made of very tough, shiny black plastic.

The disc in its original shape.
The first step was to apply a coat of primer to get rid of the shining, and to make the paint adhere easier. Then I cut off the handles (and kept those to be used for other purposes).

The disc after applying the primer

After the primer was applied, I started to do my magic on the disc, applying several layers of paint in earth colors, and went on until I was satisfied with the result (which took quite a while). While doing this, I was listening to certain dark, 'electronic' music with my headphones one, which really helped me to disconnect from my surroundings and get in the 'mood for steel'.

The results can be seen in the subsequent pictures. I hope you like them!
