How it all began

It all started with the purchase of a shoe box containing some old 'Gauge O' wagons and rails. I was fascinated by their sturdiness and 'nostalgic' beauty.

I took some pictures of them, and with it, the enchantment began...

The Beginning of it all!

It wasn't long before I started roaming the internet for more. I learned that this type of toy trains are known as 'O scale or 'O gauge', which stand for 1:43.5 scale (introduced by Märklin in 1900), but that other scales, like 1:48 or 1:64 were also available.

I also discovered that my interest was towards the ones truly old and weathered. To me, the charisma and beauty which time had given them could not be matched by 'mint' samples, which are the ones collectors usually are looking for.

The collection grew steadily, and with it the desire to 'do something' with them, other than displaying them in my living room. And this is where the connection with my miniatures work happened. I decided to build diorama's for them, to give them a stage to shine!

And that is what I've been doing for the past few months, applying the skills acquired through miniature-making to these little trains, which are, after all, miniatures themselves.
